Donate NowHow you can support the CSGSince its inception in 1971, the IUCN-SSC Crocodile Specialist Group has been involved with some of the most successful wildlife conservation programs in the world. In 1971, populations of almost all 23 species of crocodilian were severely depleted and considered to be endangered or threatened by extinction. By 1996, after 25 years of effort, more than two-thirds of the species (16) were no longer in danger of extinction. No other group of vertebrate animals has undergone such a dramatic improvement in conservation status. Despite these successes, conservation challenges remain for 7 species of crocodilian, which continue to be endangered. Major conservation initiatives [interlink to corresponding section] and Action Plans [interlink to 2010 Conservation action plans] have been developed for all species of crocodilians, including those in most need. As the CSG is a group of specialists who volunteer their time and effort to the aims and goals of the CSG - specifically, the long-term conservation of the world’s crocodilians - the operation of the CSG relies entirely on financial support from private donors. Funds are used to support a variety of activities, including:
